| So, I got an email from Xanga saying that they miss my mindless ramblings. So, here's a post to make them happy.
Hi everyone!!!

| Merry Christmas, from me and Laura in Arizona. And Laura says to let everyone know she had orange POP come out her nose. [edit] Soda. [/edit]
[edit again] It is so pop.
Anyway, we're going down to the Grand Canyon tomorrow. We'll be staying at a hotel at the top tomorrow night, then hiking down the next day. We'll spend two days camping at the bottom and doing little day-hikes. We'll spend the following three days coming up, and then get back the 2nd. I'll have a million and a half pictures, plus some that I took on Picacho Peak, which we hiked on Sunday afternoon/evening. I'll try to post the really good ones up here and then link to an album to the rest.
And this should be an interesting hike, since my pack weighs right around 60 pounds. I'm pretty sure I can handle it, especially since that includes 3 liters of water, a lot of which I'll be drinking along the way. (A liter is about 3-4 pounds, I think I found).
So, again, merry Christmas to everyone, and I'll post up again when I get back.

| Wednesday Ok, so, Laura and I flew down to Arizona on Wednesday. It actually went wonderfully. The only way the trip could have been better is if it started later in the day so I didn't have to get up at 4 am. So, we arrived, I met Laura's parents and her sister, who are all very nice and all that stuff. They were close to what I expected on most counts from having spoken with them over the phone a couple times. Things are quite a bit less organized around here than I'm used to back home, so I felt really weird the first day or two, but I think I'm getting used to it. Anyway, I've got Laura's older sister's room, so I've got a bed, and all that, which is nice. Got Laura addicted to Golden Sun during the trip and she's been playing it quite a bit since then.
Thursday Not much exciting. I think this was the day with Laura's eye appointment, which I hung out at and didn't do much.
Friday Not much interesting until the evening, when we went caroling in this neighborhood called "Winterhaven" where everyone decorates their houses and there's a contest to see who decorates it the best and all of that. It was really cool. Laura and I were laughing at the high schoolers (it was Laura's sister Lisa's choir from school that we went with) complaining about how horribly cold it was. I think it was maybe mid-thirties at the absolute coldest. They started singing "In the Bleak Mid-winter" to which Laura and I commented about how this was more like "In the Bleak Mid-autumn". They also sang "Let It Snow", and Laura looked at me and said "No! They would die if it snowed." But that was Friday.
Saturday Today, not a huge amount has happened. Had the house to myself for a while because everyone else was off shopping (for the Grand Canyon and for Christmas, both of which I am completely ready for). So I sat around working on my speed run of Golden Sun. Now there are people over, and I'm not quite sure why. But the food smells good, so I'm not going to complain. Anyway, I think it's about dinner time, so I'm going to leave it at that. Bye. | | |
| The tools of an engineer, and using it, I have created a nightstand for myself. Before, I had a suction cup soap dish stuck to the window that would hold my cell phone (which I was using as an alarm clock) and my glasses. Now, using the box that my new alarm clock came from (appropriately sealed with tape bearing the logo of the company: ThinkGeek) and a couple pieces of duct tape, I have a true, engineering, nightstand. And one that's perfectly within GCC rules (no tape on the furniture or walls). But anyway, it was fun, and I thought it was cool, so I figured it merited a post. | | |
